• Question: if you travel a lot how do you focus on your engineering under all of the stress about travelling?

      It’s not easy.

      I count the days I’m actually travelling as annual leave. The university gives me a lot of holidays, so this isn’t a big problem.

      The tricky part is working from home when wife, dogs and grandchildren are interrupting. Some parts of the job need intense concentration and these can only be done when the family are asleep or out of the house. Sometimes I do these tasks early in the morning or late at night; sometimes I have to put them aside until I am back in Cambridge.
